Most Natural Looking Faux Locs Tutorial

It has been a very long mental battle deciding whether or not to loc my hair. The next best thing would be to try my hand at some faux locs - aka fake dreadlocs - to give me that look and feel of the real thing. I have been wanting to try faux locs for so long but with every technique I tried, I failed. I tried the box braid and wrapping method, but after 4 hours and only 3 locs done... nahh sis that wasn't happening. I have a life!

I wasn't really a big fan of the cornrows and crochet-look as none of those methods looked natural to me. Any protective style I personally install has to give me that "straight from scalp" kinda look or it's not for me.

Anyways you can guess my surprise when this super "somewhat simple" natural looking style dropped by. I first saw this style and method by MsNaturaly Mary, who was inspired by Jazz Nicole. I decided to combine both of their styles to achieve this look and never I've wanted to dread my hair more than I do right now.

What is your Fearless Journey? Here's my answer:

In short, #MyFearlessJourney is moving past the fear of how I think my life should be. I want my life to be a contiuous journey of not holding back in the face of anxiety, weakness, and irrational fears of what may go wrong. I have learned that sometimes I just can't plan every part of my life and I must expect the unexpected. For me, living fearlessly is not worrying about what people think, and overthinking every situation I'm in, which is super unhealthy for my growth...also for this thing called "adulting".

Every now and again, I will be posting questions for the community. Here are the many ways you can answer and contribute to the #FearlessJourneys project:

It's Been A "LONG" While...

As I promised, I'm back to making videos on my channel after over 2 years and it feels so freeing get creating again. In the last 2-3 years, I have had a fair share of horrible and rewarding experiences, but it's life and I've definitely learned how to roll with the punches... or quite frankly the K.O 's.

Graffiti and Lime - #ManiMonday

Doesn't it really make you think of the two, though? This nail set I created off the fly and I have to say I'm totally in love with it. I've received so many compliments about this look too.

Since I'm on a mission to collect as many polishes from the Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy Laquer, I decided to stick to one brand for the whole look. Browsing through my local Rite Aid I found this interesting special effect color by Revlon. I couldn't wait to put it to the test.

And and in an instant, this became one of my favorite polishes of ALL TIME! I've been scouring the Internet for more colors.

Get The Look

The dope lime green I used is Revlon's ColorStay Gel Envy Nail Enamel "In The Money".
For the cool Graffiti effect, I used another Gel Envy Polish in "Beginners Luck" for a sparkly blush base color.
-Then I applied Revlon's Nail Enamel in "Rebel Graffiti". It definitely takes some technique to apply this polish since it has many different types or confetti-like bits, but it's very easy to handle.
-Next, I took a small detailing brush to paint a triangle on top of the graffiti nails.
-Finally, I used Revlon's "Quick Dry Top Coat" to finish everything off. I would have used the GelEvny Diamond Top Coat instead but I had lost it at the time. The diamond top coat gives an amazingly long-lasting and shiny finish. Definitely, get your nails on those.

#MondayMani - Ankara Inspired

Today's #MondayMani is dedicated to this Ankara design inspired set. They are press-on nails that I painted and created myself.
Earlier this year my mother created this beautiful maxi skirt for me, using African Ankara print fabric. I was very idle and wanted to try something new and haven't seen before in nail art, so attempted this design. This didn't turn out exactly how I wanted, (I'm quite the perfectionist) but I am impressed with the results.

It's a very interesting design whether it looks like my skirt or not. I received many compliments, some surprised that the local nail salon could pull off such a design, but I was quick to take the credit of course. ;)
